From the chip bin to the furnace: the journey of machining scrap.
MS borings are among the most common scrap streams in Hosur's auto component plants. Their light, loose form makes them distinct from solid scrap.
Handling characteristics
Borings are bulky relative to weight and often carry coolant or oil. Storage under cover and drainage help keep them in better condition.
Downstream processing
Processors may dry, de-oil or briquette borings to make them denser and easier to melt. The resulting material is fed into steelmaking or foundry operations.
What plants can do
- Store borings separately from solid scrap
- Avoid mixing different metals' chips
- Keep bins covered to reduce moisture and rust
